ULI - Powerful Ancestors From The Pacific Special Show
ULI - Powerful Ancestors From The Pacific
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Parcours des Mondes, the fair is bolstering its cultural programming with a special show at 12 rue Jacques Callot.
This beautiful gallery will host Uli: Powerful Ancestors from the Pacific, a show devoted to the impressive New Ireland ritual figures known as uli, which were made famous by the Surrealists, and especially by André Breton, who owned a magnificent example that presided over the “primitive pantheon” in his atelier at 42 rue Fontaine.
Produced in collaboration with Tribal Art magazine, Uli: Powerful Ancestors from the Pacific accompanies the release of the eponymous book published this year by Primedia.
The work is the most ambitious project to date on the subject, authored by researcher, astrophysicist, and New Ireland expert Jean-Philippe Beaulieu, who will be present for a book signing on Thursday, September 11, between 5 and 7 pm.
The majestic examples that will be on view at the rue Jacques Callot venue are included in the catalogue raisonné that is part of the book. Another fine example of these works will be shown off-site at Galerie Entwistle.
